NAB Cup Round 1

Freemantle 5.5.11.86 lost to Richmond 1.12.8.89

The Tigers started the match slowly with Freemantle quickly taking an early lead in the match. And at quarter time the Tigers were looking down the barrel. The second quarter saw things pick up for the Tigers as they closed the gap but a few late goals by Freo saw the Tiges down a couple of goals at half time.

The third quarter belongs to the yellow and black and they took the lead by the last break, a surge by Freo early in the last saw them regain the lead but a spirited effort from the Tigers in the last minutes of the game saw a victory go the way of Richmond.

Richo was magnificent, showing the same form that he played with last year, he was clearly the best player on the ground by miles. Raines, Moore and Tuck were also good performer for the Tiges.

NAB Cup Round 2

Collingwood 97 defeated Richmond 51

The buzz before the game was all the Tigers especially Benny, this was the game that would show that Richmond made the right move in picking up Cousins in the off season.

While the Tigers started the game slowly, they were their own worst enemy with their shots for goal a theme that would continue for the rest of the night. Collingwood lined up Ben when he gained his first possesion, almost ripping off his head (welcome to Richmond Ben).  Rance looked promising in his first game and Rainesy played to the same high standard we saw in Perth a few weeks ago.

The Tigers moved the ball well in patches but failed to capitalise on the scoreboard and should have had the game on toast at the final break. The Magpies run over the top in the final quarter causing the game to blow out in their favour.

Round 1

Richmond 9.13.67 lost to Carlton 23.12.150

A game which started with much promise of kicking of the Tigers 2009 campaign quickly turned sour for the Tiger Army on Thursday night as the Tigers missed there opportunities in front of goal and despite have a lead early in the first quarter never looked to be in control..

The night got worse in the last quarter with Cousins going off with a hamstring and Raines a few minutes later with a knee.

Mitch Morton did well for the Tiges kicking four goals for the night, and Richo and Delidio also were good on the night but there was not much else to write home about.

Things for 2009 can only get better from here

Round 2

Geelong 15.15.105 defeated Richmond 13.7.85

Travelling down to Geelong is never  an enjoyable experience, with the small number of Cheer Squad being tucked away safely in the back corner of the terrace we needed to ensure we were vocal during the game to ensure our presence was felt.

On the back of last weeks game hopes were not high for this encounter and during the first quarter it again looked like we would be on the wrong end of another thrashing, but during the second things started to come together.

Who knows what Terry said during the half time break but it worked, the Tigers came out blazing and kicked 8 goals for the quarter to have a one point lead at the last break, an early goal by Joel saw that lead extended in the final quarter, unfortunatley thats when the cats came back into the game and kicked away, but with play like todays we won't be far away from that first win.

Richo was his usual self along with Delidio, Tuck, Hislop, Rance, Moore all playing well.

Round 3

Western Bulldogs 16.14.110 defeated Richmond 8.15.63

The day started well for the Tigers keeping the doggies goaless in the first whilst managing to kick three themselves. At the first break things were going well if you were wearing Yellow and Black.

Then things turned sour after that first beak with the Bulldogs kicking Seven unanswered goals to take the lead at half time, the second half continued the trend of the second quarter and the Tiges limped home to another loss, their third of the season and still looking for that elusive first win.

Apart from a good efforts from Rance, Richo and Delidio its hard to find a winner in the team.

Round 4

Richmond 13.14.92 lost to Melbourne 14.16.100

Another disappointing game for the Yellow and Black army, Our best two players for the day were Bowden and Richo, another honorable game from Rance and after that its hard to find any highlights from the day.

Even the hope of Richo kicking that 800th goal didn't eventuate, so at least that gives us something to look forward to next week.

Heres looking to Anzac Day at hopefully giving what to to the Kangaroos, it'll be good to get that win under our belts.

Round 7

Port Adelaide 14.18.102 defeated Richmond 15.9.99

It was a wet day over in the City of Churches and most Tigers fans who made the journey over would have been happy with just a good showing by the men in yellow and black at the start of the day. The Tigers managed to take it up to Port and although we were down by 9 points at the first break things were not looking bleak. Nahas again was a star kicking 2 goals and there were signs that we were there for a fight.

And a fight it proved to be, although down by 5 goals early in the third quarter the Tigers kicked on and took control, taking a four point lead into the final quarter. Had the game finished 30 seconds earlier we would have been walking away with the points.

Cuz showed why the Tigers picked him up with a couragous performance playing with a broken hand for most of the game. Coughlan continues to impress and Cotchin will be all the better for the hit out.

Heres looking forward to better things in the near future.

Round 8

Richmond 12.13.85 lost to Essendon 19.11.125

After a week of turmoil down at Richmond we were looking forward to Dreamtime at the G at taking a much needed victory. For the first half it looked as though we would get our wish.

The Tigers started well kicking two quick goals and having control of the game. Tuck was celebrating his 100th game in style, and Tambling was tearing them apart. Tacling for the Black and Yellow was a strong point in the first half with the Bombers earning every kick they got as the Tigers hit them hard.

Unfortunatley we couldn't keep up the momentm in the second half and by the final break things were tight with the Bombers running over the top of the Tiges in the last quarter in what ended up a disappointing match.

Round 9

Freemantle 17.10.112 lost to Richmond 17.13.115

As much as I would have like to been at the game on Saturday night, myself like so many of the Tiger faithfully were in front of the TV nervously watching to see what the Tigers would do this week.

The game started well with the Tiges kicking the first goal but Freo quickly responded. It was a good battle during the first quarter but the Tigers were on the wrong end of things again and were down a couple of goals at the first break. The locals again got the better in the second quarter and still held the lead at half time.

After the break the Tigers switched on, kicking 8 goals and taking a handy lead, unfortunatley Freo kicked the last 3 of the quarter to come back into the game, giving many Tiger fans the thought of "Oh No not again"

Even though we kicked the first goal of the last quarter, Freo kept coming at the Tigers and late into time on, they hit the lead. In what was almost a mirror odf the game two weeks ago in Adelaide, Mitch Morton grabbed a marked in the dying minute, played on and this time putting it through the middle to give the Tigers victory.

Tambling played well, as did Cousins (didn't the crowd love him, jeering every time he touched the ball) Lids took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half and led the way.

Round 10

Richmond 14.5.89 lost to Western Bulldogs 24.13.157

After a week of drama we finally got to gameday. The Tigers started the game well and for the first half fought out the game in the way that made all that wear the Yellow and Black proud.

Even at the first break the dogs got a good lead halfway through the second quarter, but a spirited fightback by the Tigers late in the quarter saw them take a two point lead into half time.Unfortunatley the Tiges did not come out to play in the second half and were beaten by 68 points at the end.

Tambling, Jackson, Reiwoldt and Cousins all played well in patches but it was not enough to take the Tigers on to Victory.

Round 11

Richmond 13.14.92 defeated West Coast 11.11.77

It was the start of a new era at Tigerland with Jade taking control in his first match. The changes started on Thursday night at the selection table with 5 changes being made, experience out, new in, It was the youngest Richmond team to take the field in 15 years. The feeling of nervousness could be felt around the ground before the game as the Yellow and Black faithfully were uncertain on what would transpire.

The Tigers came out fighting and had control of the game in the first quarter, they were winning possession, playing direct and exciting football, and most importantly were able to convert on the scoreboard. Tambling played the best quarter we have seen him play winning 14 disposals and seemingly being everywhere on the ground.

The rest of the game was played evenly between the two teams although the Tigers never surrendered their lead and ended the game winning by 15 points.

Tambling while not up to the standard he set in the first quarter remained best on ground, Morton, Moore, Tuck and Foley were also great around the ground.

Round 12

St Kilda 13.14.92 defeated Richmond 5.6.36

The Tigers started the game on fire with everyone in the team playing there part in getting the scoreboard moving, it looked like the in was our night as we took a lead into the first break, and that is where the game ended for the Yellow and Black, we didn't trouble the scorers until the final quarter, going down by 56 points in the end, and that about says it all about the match. If the Saints were any type of decent side the margin would have been a lot bigger.

Round 13

Richmond 13.7.85 lost to Adelaide 15.12.102

The game started poorly for the Tigers with Adelaide kicking the first 5 goals of the match and it looked like a long night for the Tiger faithful.

But after the first break things started to work in patches for the team and they remained competitive for the remainder of the match, clawing back at the deficit of the first quarter.

Nahas was brilliant kicking 4 goals while Tambling continued his good form. Newcomers to the team Vickery, Silvester and Post all showed good signs and if they can continue to play this way and improve things aren't as dark in Tigerland as the media would have us believe.

Round 14

Carlton 16.13.109 defeated Richmond 12.17.89

The wind was howling around the G on Saturday afternoon and for a while it looked like we wouldn't be able to hold up the runthrough before the game as the League was concern about safety, however the weather settled down and the runthrough went up as the players hit the ground.

The first quarter was a delight for the Tiger faithful with the Yellow and Black making the most of their opportunities and it looked like we would have our revenge of that Round one abomination with the Tigers taking the slenderest of leads into the first break. The Tigers continued to fight gallantly during the second quarter and but were down by a goal at half time. The third quarter saw the Tigers win everywhere except the scoreboard as the Tigers couldn't buy a goal, kicking 1.8 while the Blues were pulling them out of you know where. At the end of the day the Tiges went down by 20 after a fighting effort, not the result we wanted, but a lot better than our last meeting.

The young kids continued to impress with Vickery and Post looking like they will be a part of the Senior side for many years to come, while Cousins was best on field.

Round 16

Richmond 12.13.85 drew North Melbourne 12.13.85

It was the second Eureka game, a game that is suppose to celebrate Australias fighting spirit and "Fair Go". Well a Fair Go is the last thing we got from the umpires in this game with the Tigers being on the wrong end of every decision they made. They couldn't even pay marks that were so obvious that a blind man sitting in the top deck of the Southern Stand could have told you what they were.

The first five minutes of the game started slow for Richmond but after that the Tigees kicked into gear, we dominated play all over the ground and should have been up by more than we were at the first break if not for some poor goal kicking again. Still at the half it looked like it was going to be our day.

"Ban Half Time" is now the rallying call of Tigers supporters as again we came out of the break a different team, North clawing back the lead and eventually taking it with about 5 minutes of the game left. From there both teams kicked a couple of goals with the lead see sawing and ending up level at the final siren.

Vickery and Post again looked good and Tambling continues to shine, no talk now about the Tigers getting it wrong with that overrated Hawk.

Round 17

Essendon 14.12.96 lost to Richmond 15.11.101

Today we took on that mob from Windy Hill, at the start of the best thing that many Tigers were hoping for was an effort from the team that would do justice to celebrating our captains 150th game. What transpired over the course of the afternoon was beyond what most of us dreamed of.

The Tigers took control of the game and although the Bombers had their moments in the game the Tigers kept fighting and although surrendering the lead in the third quarter for a brief moment they never gave up although we had a scare in the last few minutes of the game.We held on gallantly to win by 5 points.

Cousins play magnificantly and showed why he should be wearing the Yellow and Black for at least another season, Tambling continued his recent good form and Delidio played the best game we have seen from him for a while. All in all it was a great effort by Richmond and we should be able to bacjk it up with another win this week against the Dees.

Round 18

Melbourne 12.10.82 lost to Richmond 12.14.86

We came today expecting a win, the opposition supporters came wanting a loss, a perfect scenario you might think. The only thing worth remembering from the game this week happened after the final siren when from outside 50 Jordan McMahon put through the winning goal to give the Tiges a 4 point victory.

It was a tough match to watch with scrappy play all day and the Tigers never quite looking like they would take the match.

Round 19

Richmond 10.8.68 lost to Sydney 18.15.123

This was a game we're we though we were in with a good chance, how very wrong we were. Not once during the afternoon did it look like the Tigers were going to challenge for a win. Cousins played well in his 250th and Tambling played a reasonable game in patches. King was the best for the Yellow and Black. After that it was hard going.

Round 20

Richmond 8.11.59 lost to Collingwood 22.20.152

If you forget about this match maybe the memory will go away.

Round 21

Richmond 14.9.93 lost to Hawthorn 20.15.135

The Tigers started the game well this week taking the match up to the hawks and were in the contest up to half time. Injuries during the course of the match cost us dearly with Thursfield the first to go down, with Cousins, Newman, Jackson and Edwards all following.
